> Compensation and Safety

The safety of both the workplace environment and the personal safety of the student are of a high priority in the co-op program. Many steps are taken by Michael Power / St. Joseph High School as well as the individual employers to ensure the standards are met. Students are covered in the following fields:

Insurance: Students are covered for general accidents and personal liability with their school board. In addition, students are covered by Workers' Compensation through the Ministry of Education.

Preparation: Students are interviewed and counselled by school staff before being accepted into the program. They must then attend a 15 hour pre-employment orientation class whcih deals with skills identification, job-readiness, and safety percautions in the workplace. Students are also required to attend an interview with the employer prior to placement.
